Giving Back in 2014

December 19, 2014

Each year, staff from the Bellevue office of Paul Gauguin Cruises volunteer and donate to charities.  We hope to make a difference in our community by giving back.

One of the highlights of the year was volunteering at Northwest Harvest—Washington’s statewide hunger relief agency.  Along with our President Diane Moore, our staff packaged 2,500 pounds of beans, which equals 1,923 meals for needy families.

Earlier in the month we held our annual food drive, collecting boxes of non-perishable foods for Northwest Harvest. The agency then distributes the food to area food banks, shelters, and meal programs.

Our staff also participated for the fourth consecutive year in the Children’s Home Society of Washington’s Holiday Helper program, located at the North Seattle Family Resource Center (NFSC), which assists families in need.  Last year, the Holiday Helper program helped more than 300 families.

The Paul Gauguin Cruises team purchased and donated 51 games/ toys/books, 23 articles of clothing, and $300 in gift cards for holiday meals to NFSC for families in need.

This summer, our team wanted to take the opportunity to bring awareness of ALS by participating in an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  We officially challenged our fellow Seattle-based cruise lines–Holland America, Seabourn, and Windstar Cruises–to participate.  We also made a donation to ALS. In 2014, Paul Gauguin Cruises also joined Tourism Cares, the chartible arm of the travel and tourism industry.

Tourism Cares is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that preserves and enriches the travel experience for future generations. The organization channels the philanthropic passion and commitment of the travel industry to protect and restore valuable destinations we all care about—and support those destinations as engines for prosperity and pride in their communities.

Tourism Cares domestic programs focus on industry-wide volunteer events, capacity building for the nonprofit stewards of tourism sites, and scholarships and mentoring to support a talented workforce.  Globally, their efforts include corporate social responsibility partnerships, strategic investments, and advocacy and education across the travel industry.

Paul Gauguin Cruises is proud to support Tourism Cares and we look forward to helping with initiatives to preserve and enrich travel experiences around the world.  At a recent Tourism Cares event, Linda Androlia (in her navy, Tere Moana shirt) from Sunstone Tours and her husband volunteered at the White Point Preserve & Nature Center in San Pedro, Calif., representing Team Paul Gauguin Cruises.

Thank you to our employees who have volunteered and generously donated this year. We also thank our travel agent partners who help those in need in our community.
